SPID (Sistema Pubblico di Identità Digitale) is a system that allows Italian citizens to access online services of the Public Administration.

SPID is managed by several Identity Providers, such as Namirial, Infocert, and Poste Italiane, which citizens can turn to in order to obtain their Digital Identity, and can be used by several Service Providers, including private ones, to benefit from a certified authentication mechanism that does not require any registration process and that allows obtaining, for each authenticated user, a series of information, such as date and place of birth, gender, e-mail, telephone, …

SPID is based on the SAML2 protocol; to integrate it into its own sites or applications, a Service Provider has several tools and SDKs available, which it can use after accrediting itself at the AGID site. At the end of the process, a “Sign in with SPID” button can be placed on their site or application that will allow the user to select their Identity Provider to authenticate.

In order to use SPID, specific skills are needed, which Emisfera is able to offer, either in terms of consulting or by making the integration for a specific site or application.
